Assoc. Prof. Set Sze Yun and doctoral student Naoki Yamaguchi visited the head office of SCREEN Holdings in Kyoto, where Prof. Set gave an invited talk. They also visited Noda Lab at Kyoto University.

Congratulations to doctoral student Naoki Yamaguchi for winning 3rd place for best student paper at IEEE Photonics Conference (IPC), held in Vancouver, Canada.
Yamaguchi-san’s winning paper was titled “Coherent Doppler LiDAR using Novel MEMS-based Optical Phased Array Scanner”.

The Optica student chapter was proud to host Prof. Amr Helmy, who presented an excellent talk on hybridization in plasmonic devices.

In proceedings of the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO) 2022 have now become available. Our group’s works can be accessed using the links below:

Professor Sze Y, Set has been elected as one of the IEEE Photonics Society Distinguished Lecturers for 2022-2023. The IEEE Photonics Society Distinguished Lecturer Program was designed to honor excellent speakers who have made technical, industrial or entrepreneurial contributions to the field of photonics and to enhance the technical programs of the IEEE Photonics Society Chapters, presenting plenary style lectures to as many audiences as possible across the world.
Prof. Set’s lecture will be titled ‘Nano-Carbon Mode-Locked Fiber Lasers.’ Further details can be found at www.photonicssociety.org.
Also, please see here for more information on the Distinguished Lecturer Program.
We are pleased to announce the publishing of Professor Yamashita’s new book: Optoelectronics for Fiber Optic Communications and Measurement. It covers everything from the basics of fiber communications and measurement to in-depth analysis of the physical principles behind optical waveguides, optical fiber, lasers, and much more. The book is available in a variety of locations and websites, so please do enjoy!

The CLEO conference is where leading researchers from around the world present key innovations they have recently made in a variety of fields. This year the Yamshita-Set lab have several of our researchers making presentations you will not want to miss. Here is a comprehensive list of both our oral and poster presentations:

The Yamashita-Set lab would love to congratulate our two most recent graduates, Masters students Kota Uyama and our Jiaqi Qu. Beside, Uyama won Dean’s Award FY2022 in the department of engineering. They were presented with their degrees by both Professors Yamashita and Set. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.

The Yamashita-Set lab would like to take the opportunity to congratulate one its members, UYAMA Kota, on receiving the 優秀口頭発表賞 award at the 次世代ファイバーレーザー研究会 event. The symposium is nation wide with participants from Japan’s top universities and touches upon current advances in fiber lasers. The award, showcased in the picture below, is given to the best presenter of the symposium. Mr. Uyama’s presentation focused on stabilization analysis of polarization multiplexing fiber laser with all-pm configuration.
