OPJ2024 is organized by the Optical Society of Japan (OSJ) and held from November 29 to December 1, 2024, at the University of Electro-Communications in Chofu, Tokyo.
Prof. Yamashita and Prof. Set participated in OPJ2024, communicated with professors and researchers worldwide.
Our doctoral student, Takaki Kiyozumi, won the best poster award in Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP) 2024A Meeting. Congratulations to him!
This award recognizes his innovative contributions in distributed fiber sensing using brillouin scattering.
The Workshop on Next-Geneartion Fiber Laser Technology was sucessfully held at Nagoya University. Maolin Dai and Yifan Ma participated in the workshop and gave oral presentations on their respective research achievements. In addition, Prof. Yamashita attended the meeting as a committee member.
In this september, we have three graduates: Bowen Liu (PhD), Guanyu Ye (PhD), and Rhona Hamilton (Master). Congratulations on you all! We will miss the time we spent, and best wishes for your bright future carrer.
Our recent PhD graduate, Bowen achieved excellent thesis award on Optoelectronics Global Conference (OGC), held in Shenzhen, China. He also presented his recent works on tunable solitons in all-PM fiber lasers as an invited speaker. Let’s congratulate him!
The 3th Symposia on Ultrafast Optoelectronics (UFO) is held at Chiba Institute of Technology. Prof. Set chaired this symposia, and D3 student Maolin presented his poster about high repetition rate fiber laser.

Prof. Set and Prof. Kim.
Dr. Jungwon Kim, professor of KAIST, Korea, Fellow of Optica, visited us, and gave an IEEE Photonics Society Distinguished Lecture on “It’s perfect timing for optical frequency combs”.
This year CLEO-PR is held at Incheon, Korea. We are attending and spending a nice time there!

Prof. Ben Eggleton, professor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sydney came to visit Yamashita-Set lab, and gave an academic talk on Photonic Radar.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, researchers, and faculty members from whole university and RCAST, who engaged in lively discussions and gained valuable insights from Prof. Eggleton’s expertise on on-chip photonics. The talk was followed by a Q&A session, where attendees had the opportunity to delve deeper into the subject matter.
